Problem 9.2 - Operation elements of one operation chosen so that the first alone carries the entanglement fidelity

All of the entanglement fidelity in one operation element.

Hover over a blue or green term in the text, or a node in the graph, to find it in the other. Select it to read its declaration both in Lean and in words.

The Exercise

A quantum system with state space HH is in the state ρ\rho and undergoes an operation ℰ\mathcal{E} given by operation elements E0,…,En−1E_0, \dots, E_{n-1}. The same operation can be written with other operation elements. The exercise asks for a set of them, F0,…,Fn−1F_0, \dots, F_{n-1}, in which the whole entanglement fidelity of ρ\rho under ℰ\mathcal{E} comes from the first element, every other element having tr⁡(ρFi)=0\operatorname{tr}(\rho F_i) = 0.

Operation Elements and Entanglement Fidelity

Let HH be a finite-dimensional complex Hilbert space. The operation ℰ\mathcal{E} with operation elements E0,…,En−1E_0, \dots, E_{n-1}, operators on HH, is the linear map on operators XX on HH given by ℰ(X)=∑iEiXEi†.\mathcal{E}(X) = \sum_i E_i X E_i^\dagger .(1) Two families of operators are operation elements of one operation when they give the same map (1).

The entanglement fidelity F(ρ,E)F(\rho, E) of an operator ρ\rho on HH with respect to a finite family E=(Ei)E = (E_i) of operators on HH is the real number F(ρ,E)=∑i|tr⁡(ρEi)|2.F(\rho, E) = \sum_i \bigl|\operatorname{tr}(\rho E_i)\bigr|^2 .(2)✦

The Claim

Theorem 1. Let ρ\rho be an operator on HH, and let E0,…,En−1E_0, \dots, E_{n-1}, with n≥1n \ge 1, be the operation elements of an operation ℰ\mathcal{E}. Then there are operation elements F0,…,Fn−1F_0, \dots, F_{n-1} of the same operation, ∑iFiXFi†=ℰ(X)\sum_i F_i X F_i^\dagger = \mathcal{E}(X) for every operator XX on HH, such that tr⁡(ρFi)=0(i≠0),F(ρ,E)=|tr⁡(ρF0)|2.\operatorname{tr}(\rho F_i) = 0 \quad (i \neq 0), \qquad F(\rho, E) = \bigl|\operatorname{tr}(\rho F_0)\bigr|^2 .(3)✦

What Is Checked

The claim is stated over the entanglement fidelity (2) of an operator ρ\rho on HH and a family of operators on HH, and over the operation (1) through which its two families are compared. What the library proves about them is the claim (3) itself.
